Multi-Pad Design & Collection Pipeline Routing

Citrus Energy Mehoopany, PA

Projects

Overview

When natural gas was discovered under Proctor & Gamble’s (P&G’s) 1,400 acre Mehoopany Plant property, it presented them with a unique opportunity for operational and environmental impact savings. P&G decided to harvest the natural gas to power and heat its manufacturing facility and fuel its vehicles. We worked as a subconsultant to Citrus Energy (which has since been acquired by Warren Resources) to assist in site design, environmental permitting, pipeline routing, and more, for six well pads, a compressor station, a freshwater impoundment, and the gas gathering pipeline network in order to extract and move the natural gas to the Mehoopany Plant.

Solution Details

We completed civil design, stormwater management, E&S controls, and environmental permitting for the six well pads were strategically located to extract natural gas across P&G’s property. In addition to the pads, a freshwater impoundment was designed and permitted to store water for use in well drilling. A compressor station pad was also designed and permitted to transmit the gas to the plant.

To connect the wells, 14,400 feet of 12-inch gathering pipeline was routed, which included one horizontal directional drill under a state route, and multiple stream, utility, and driveway crossings.

With the civil design and permitting completed, the pathway was cleared for the rest of the teams involved to provide the additional services necessary for P&G to successfully convert its Mehoopany Plant to utilize natural gas, saving them millions of dollars annually. Marcellus Shale Coalition Quarterly Magazine, published an article (Proctor & Gamble’s Mehoopany Plant: “The Triple Threat” of Natural Gas) that discusses the entire conversion project and how much P&G is conserving in operations budget and their carbon footprint.
