Facility Condition Assessments

John Hopkins University Baltimore, MD

Projects

Overview

Overview: Entech began its relationship with Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in 2001, since which time we have assessed almost 80 JHU/JHU-affiliated buildings. Construction of these buildings span from 1800’s to 2000’s, and the buildings range in size from 1,700 to 240,000 square feet, totaling over 3.3 million square feet. Over 3,000 projects have been identified, planned, scheduled, and budgeted through various assessments.

Below is a summary of major assessments throughout the years:

Major Assessments

  • Homewood Campus System-wide Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) - We surveyed the majority of buildings on campus. Architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing specialists performed the inspections, identifying all building system deficiencies and system renewal costs for the next 20 years. Surveys of the Homewood Campus accounted for over 2.5 million square feet in assessment and included student housing, core academic, and research facilities.
  • Steven Muller Building – Space Telescope Science Institute - Entech completed an assessment of this facility, which leased by NASA, is used in support of the Hubble Telescope, and contains a number of computation labs. The facility totals over 130,000 square feet.
  • Evergreen House - We surveyed the Evergreen House site, which became affiliated with the University in 1942. On the National Register of Historic Places, it consists of 26 acres and includes a 24,000 square foot, 48-room, Italianate style mansion built in 1857, a large stone carriage house, and a small residential cottage.
  • Homewood House - which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and was acquired by the University in 1902. The 130-acre farm/country retreat became the JHU Homewood Campus and the Federal Period style home, built in 1801 by Charles Carroll Jr., established the primary architectural style for most of the campus buildings.
  • Mount Washington Corporate Campus - we assessed nine buildings, totaling over 1 million square feet.
  • Apartment Buildings - Johns Hopkins Real Estate contacted us to evaluate two apartment buildings adjacent to the Homewood Campus that totaled 176,000 square feet.
  • Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Washington DC - we assessed the 72,000 square foot Nitze Building and the 70,000 Rome building for the University.
