Building Addition & Renovation

Millersville University Millersville, PA

Projects

Overview

This building, originally constructed in the late 1800’s as an armory gymnasium, is currently used as a theater for small performances, housing two theaters and administrative space. To address the issues of accessibility and limited emergency egress routes, Millersville University presented a simple program to add a set of accessible public lavatories, an elevator, and stair tower so as to correct the known deficiencies. Entech provided the design required to alleviate these issues as well as to incorporate other enhancements.

The entry areas were reconfigured to accommodate multiple functions, serving as expanded lobbies during show intermissions, as a gallery during normal public hours, and as an improvisational practice break-out area for students in the theater program. A new addition provided a view of the beautiful nearby pond and fountain.
