Guild Hall Renovations

Bryn Mawr College Bryn Mawr, PA

Projects

Overview

The College undertook a renovation project to Guild Hall to house the Undergraduate Dean’s Offices and renovate the existing campus server room. The building’s unique layout incorporates a below-grade main floor level, with the above-grade first and second floor levels covering a significantly smaller footprint than that of the main level, posing both challenges and opportunities in the renovation project.

Entech worked with Buell Kratzer Powell and provided the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical renovations for the project.

Solution Details

Entech modified the existing HVAC system to serve the expanding needs of the campus server room. An additional DX air conditioning (AC) unit was added to serve additional current and future server rack loads. The existing and new AC unit condensers are located in a below grade pit, and were provided with large discharge ductwork to direct discharge air up and out of the pit. The existing variable air volume (VAV) system, which serves the main floor spaces, was upgraded with new VAV boxes with hot water reheat coils. The single air handling unit (AHU) has chilled and hot water coils, with chilled and hot water provided from an adjacent building. The two small upper levels of the building are served by 4-pipe chilled/hot water fan coil units that remained unaltered by the renovation, while the lobby fan coil units were replaced to accommodate the lobby renovations.

Entech performed minor plumbing renovations to add a kitchen sink and upgrade plumbing fixtures in the toilet room. The building is fully sprinklered; modifications to the system were made to accommodate new space layouts.

New lighting, power, and data were also provided on the main and first floor levels, incorporating LED fixtures into the office and courtyard spaces and compact fluorescent down lights into the lobby and hallways. Emergency power for the server room continues to be provided via an existing emergency generator. Renovations also included a new fire alarm system.
