Overview

The Borough of Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, undertook a critical infrastructure improvement project focused on the replacement of existing water service lines containing assumed lead materials. The initiative is designed to ensure ongoing compliance with the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA’s) Lead and Copper Rule and to protect public health by eliminating potential sources of lead exposure in the community’s drinking water system.

The Borough’s water distribution system includes older facilities primarily composed of lead, as documented through service cards in municipal records. Over time, these materials pose increasing risks of deterioration, operational inefficiencies, and potential compliance violations. If left unaddressed, the system’s condition could compromise functionality and reliability, creating health risks for residents.

This project replaces approximately 54 service lines, totaling an estimated 3,000 linear feet (LF) of assumed lead piping. The work included installation of new service lines, replacement of essential water line appuretenances, and construction and integration of water mains as needed to support the replacements. To complete this work.

We helped the Borough secure $391,000 in grant funding from PENNVEST and provided grant administration services through construction.

This comprehensive scope ensures that all service connections are modernized and free of lead risks.
